Policy Statement

The World Health Organization Code for the Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes will be followed. Hospital units providing care to mother and babies will not accept advertising, promotional or educational materials produced by companies that sell infant formula.

Policy Guidelines

  • No marketing, advertising or written educational material including logos and graphics shall be used by or displayed in the hospitals that depict infant formula or bottles.


  • Hospital units providing care to mothers and babies will not accept advertising, promotional items or educational materials produced by companies that sell infant formula.


  • Infant formula vendors will not have access to staff nurses while on duty.


  • Free products, gifts and marketing materials from vendors will not be provided to patients. These include such things as:

    • Refreshments or meals to hospital patients, families or staff.


    • Gift packs from any vendor of baby products or infant formula.


    • Gifts from infant formula companies that are specified for "breastfeeding mothers".
