Member Impact

PABC members not only raise awareness for breastfeeding in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, many of them are active in their communities.  Here are a few examples:

Jeanine Dorman
Hello!  My name is Jeanine and I am a Lactation Consultant at the Reading Hospital in Reading, Pennsylvania.  I have been an active LC since 1995 when I passed my boards.   I have my BSN and had been a NICU nurse both in Hershey and then in Reading in their NICU prior to becoming an LC.  I started the program at Reading and am currently co-chair of the Berks County Breastfeeding Coalition that just celebrated their 1 year anniversary in August.  I am looking forward to being a member of the PABC and continuing to work for our breastfeeding couplets.

Karen Foard, M.Ed., IBCLC
Karen has been in private practice in Central PA for 26 years. Her practice includes one-on-one and phone consultations and teaching pre-natal breastfeeding classes. She does outreach presentations to undergraduate classes at Penn State and she’s a member of the Education Committee for ILCA. Her license plates have been BFYRBAB and BORN2BF — She loves anything and everything breastfeeding!

Kay Hoover
Kay became an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant in 1985. Kay has worked as a private practice lactation consultant, a hospital lactation consultant, the lactation consultant for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, Pennsylvania Department of Health as the Breastfeeding Coordinator, and for The Center for Childhood Obesity Research at The Pennsylvania State University.  She has presented workshops at national and international conferences. Kay co-authored Candidiasis and Breastfeeding published by La Leche League.  Barbara Wilson-Clay and Kay co-authored The Breastfeeding Atlas. Kay served on the board of the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners for six years.  In 2008 Kay became a Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association. Kay is a member of the International and United States Lactation Consultant Associations and very involved in her local chapter.  She has been a La Leche League Leader since 1971.

Linda Kelley, RN IBCLC ICCE
Linda works for Washington Health Systems. She has been a registered nurse since 1978, an OB nurse for over 25 years, an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant since 1997 and a Certified Childbirth Educator since 2004.

She developed the Lactation Program for The Washington Hospital where she teach prenatal breastfeeding classes and runs a monthly support group for parents and babies. She is available for inpatient and outpatient consultation and provides follow-up phone calls to all breastfeeding mothers. She has educated the Washington Health System School of Nursing students and, more recently, she has educated physician offices, and students at the Western Area Career and Technology Center. She has also been involved with obtaining, implementing and evaluating several grants to improve breastfeeding services and outcomes for The Washington Health Systems.

Her own challenges with breastfeeding her son and the help she received from a La Leche league member, motivates her to help other mothers who are experiencing breastfeeding issues. She has 2 adult children and 6 grandchildren, who were all breastfed.

“The most rewarding part of my job is seeing the joy and relief on the parents’ faces when their baby is successfully breastfeeding. I enjoy educating parents and helping mothers and babies begin their lifelong journey to good health.”

Nikki Lee RN, BSN, Mother of 2, MS, CCE, IBCLC, CIMI, ANLC, CKC
Nikki has had a private practice for nearly 2 decades, and uses craniosacral therapy, aromatherapy and homeopathy in her practice. She has been active in her local ILCA-affiliate, PRO-LC, for years. She has been the lactation consultant for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health since 2006. She is PQAS-certified and offers 3 PQAS credits for the workshop, “Supporting Breastfeeding in Early Childhood Education”

Genevieve Whitehaus RN,BSN,RCCE,IBCLC
Genevieve has been the the owner of Comprehensive Birth Support Services in Hummelstown, PA since the late 1990’s. She’s been an RN for over 34 years RN in the Maternity/ L&D, NICU, and a childhood educator and lactation consultant since 1994. Ms. Whitehaus is also the President of South Central Lactation Consultants Association.
