Peer counselors
Various groups train breastfeeding peer counselors. They are generally
mothers who have breastfed their own infants and have received additional
professional training. They are qualified to five basic breastfeeding
information and encouragement to pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

Certified Lactation Counselors or Specialists
Numerous titles are given to persons who typically work in health care and
public health settings who take 15 to 45 hour courses in various training
programs and certifications whose training equips them with basic knowledge of
lactation SUPPORT PABC. Breastfeeding problems beyond the skill level of
these providers are referred to the IBCLC.
IBCLCs
The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant possesses the necessary
skills, knowledge, and attitudes to provide quality breastfeeding assistance to
babies and mothers. IBCLCs specialize in the clinical management of
breastfeeding which includes: preventive health care, patient education, nutrition
counseling, and therapeutic treatment.
