ILCA/USLCA FREE WEBINAR: Supporting Breastfeeding During Flu Season

The International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) and United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) are pleased to announce a FREE webinar for the lactation community, “Supporting Breastfeeding During Flu Season.” The webinar is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 from 2:00-3:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, and is designed for lactation consultants, educators, and health care professionals who work with new families.

The webinar will feature Katherine Shealy, MPH, IBCLC from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, and will include information about the latest guidance from CDC on the care of mothers and infants in obstetric settings, along with positive solutions for implementing hospital protocols that support breastfeeding. Ample time for questions and discussion will be included.

Topics include:

  • Infection control measures to reduce the transmission of H1N1 in the hospital setting
  • Mechanisms of transmission of 2009 H1N1 to the newborn
  • Caring for breastfeeding newborns of mothers with suspected/confirmed 2009 H1N1
  • Recommendations for flu vaccines (seasonal and H1N1) in pregnant and breastfeeding women
  • Promoting the importance of breastfeeding during flu season
  • Role of IBCLCs in establishing and implementing protocols that support breastfeeding
  • Resources available from ILCA, CDC, and other organizations
